Grading is not free money. It is a bet that the graded price minus the fee beats the raw price, and that bet loses more often than collectors admit.
Running the math
- ★Find the raw sold price and the graded sold prices for 8, 9 and 10.
- ★Estimate your realistic grade honestly — most raws are 8s.
- ★Subtract the fee and shipping from the expected graded price.
- ★If the spread is thin at a 9, the card is not a grading candidate.
