The slab market is efficient and crowded. Game-used memorabilia and raw vintage are where knowledge still beats capital.
Authenticating game-used pieces
- ★Demand a photo-match or a team/league LOA, not just a dealer's word.
- ★Check tagging: era-correct manufacturer tags, size flags and year tags.
- ★Look for honest wear — repairs, pilling and stains are good signs.
- ★Serial numbers on modern jerseys should trace back to the issuing program.
Where raw still pays
- ★Centered, clean-cornered commons of star rookies in mid-grade.
- ★Regional and food-issue sets that never got graded in volume.
- ★Undervalued vintage cards from 1970s high-number series.
- ★Pack-fresh modern that pre-screens strong on all four corners.
Red flags: a jersey priced far under comparable sales, a LOA from an authenticator nobody can look up, and a seller who will not let you photograph the item.
